Anna Police Find Stolen Handgun During Traffic Stop

Anna police found a hidden weapon and arrested a man and charged him with multiple crimes Friday after a traffic stop.

An officer stopped Jason Mason, 26, of Pine Bluff, Ark., at about 7 p.m. Friday on U.S. 75 near Mantua.

According to Anna police Sgt. Jeff Caponera, the officer smelled pot in the vehicle after making contact with the driver.

A subsequent search revealed marijuana in the vehicle's glove box and a firearm concealed under the dashboard. The firearm was reported stolen from Fayetteville, Ark.

Mason was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, a third-degree felony; theft of a firearm, a state jail felony; unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.

An officer made an arrest the following evening after a traffic stop on U.S. 75 near F.M. 455.

Oycontin and methamphetamine were found in the vehicle.

The driver, 23-year-old Kendra Owen of Denison, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.

Also during the last week, Anna police:

Identified a suspect who escaped after a chase last week in the northern section of town.

Caponera said the department has put out an arrest warrant fro David Lewis Brock, 39, of Anna.

Received reports of a pair of vehicle burglaries in the Oak Hollow subdivision Monday night.

A cell phone charger and a GPS unit were taken from a vehicle in the 1300 block of Post Oak Trail, while a radar and an mp3 player were taken from a vehicle in the 1600 block of Chestnut.

Caponera said neither vehicle was locked.
