VAN ALSTYNE -- National Night Out, the yearly crime-prevention program sponsored nationwide by the National Association of Town Watch, will be celebrated Tuesday night in Van Alstyne.

Van Alstyne Police Department and the Van Alstyne Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the events at the police and fire stations and the Community Center. Joining them with crime prevention information, supplemented by information on other vital subjects, such as health or aging matters, will be numerous businesses and organizations. There will also be free activities for the children and free food and beverages for everyone.

Police Lt. Tim Barnes said, "It's a good time for everybody. Come on out. We want to meet you." All officers with the department, including reserves, will be on hand to shake hands and talk with those they serve. The fire department will also be a part of this year's National Night Out activities.

The events will run from 6-9 p.m. in the 200 block of North Preston.
